Nutrition

Dr. Ziemba offers Nutritional counseling and Functional Medicine evaluations. Dr. Ziemba may utilize several types of diagnostic studies to discover nutritional deficiencies and metabolic imbalance. Blood tests, saliva tests, food sensitivity tests, and stool analysis are some of the ways used to check for nutritional and metabolic problems. These problems often lead to low energy, slower healing, premature aging, and degenerative diseases. Genetic testing is also an important procedure to check and see if your body may have problems with certain metabolic processes, such as methylation pathways, or creating enzymes, or Vitamin D synthesis. Genetics can be tested by use of saliva test through "23andme" company or Methygenomic lab.

Nutritional imbalance has also been linked to many autoimmune disorders (fibromyalgia, lupus, Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and MS) and Metabolic conditions such as Diabetes, Heart disease and Hypothyroidism.

Dr. Ziemba will provide recommendations for supplements, vitamins or minerals, diet, and possibly other lifestyle changes to benefit your health care needs. Each patient is considered unique and evaluated and advised on their specific individual needs.

INITIAL CONSULTATION for FUNCTIONAL ASSESSMENT: Includes consultation, physical examination, and review of previous blood work or other diagnostic testing: $125 per hour. Testing

Food sensitivity: We use two labs that test the IgG, IgE, IgG4, IgA and CD3 immune markers to determine if your body is having an abnormal inflammatory response to specific foods. This can indicate that a person has Leaky Gut, Celiac, or Food Allergy. Removal of these foods from the diet can help to restore balance, reduce inflammation, and calm the immune overactivity in many conditions. The test is a blood draw (for adults) and blood finger prick (for children), and is sent to the lab for results.

Stool test: This is a stool test, which is performed at home and mailed to the lab. It tests for parasites, pathogenic bacteria or viruses, H.Plyori, candida/ yeast, and inflammation and digestion in the bowel. Many people with GI problems such as stomach pain, indigestion, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and irritable bowel have Leaky gut, SIBO, or Dysbiosis. This tests helps us to know which herbs or supplements are needed to irradicate the "bad" bacteria and what is needed in terms of probiotics, digestive enzymes or other supplements to heal the bowel.

Adrenal test: Adrenal glands are responsible for making hormones that affect energy and blood pressure. Sometimes if a person is under sustained stress the adrenals become "fatigued" and overworked and can lead to an imbalance in cortisol and DHEA levels. Saliva testing can be used to test these hormones and see if treatment is needed to support adrenal function.

Hormones: Hormones are powerful chemicals that affect our energy, metabolism, and mood. We use either urine or saliva testing to check the Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA, and metabolites of these to determine hormone status. Symptoms of low energy, insomnia, lack of sex drive, loss of muscle mass, and depression are often related to low hormone status in men and women. Patients with PCOS or infertility should also have this test. Treatment to improve hormone balance will then be advised, which may include diet, supplements, herbs or hormone replacement therapy.

Organic Acid Test: This is a urine test to check evaluate the metabolic processes of the cells, to check for detoxification, energy production, neurotransmitter breakdown, microbial activity in the bowel, and vitamin deficiency. It is advised for patients with ADD/ ADHD or Autism, depression or anxiety, and metabolic disorders, such as fibromyalgia.

Cyrex testing: This company offers specialized testing for specific disorders such as arthritic conditions, diabetes, autoimmune, chemical or toxic exposure, and neurological conditions (Parkinson or Alzheimer's). It is a blood test that checks autoimmune markers for the above conditions or for toxins / heavy metals/ pesticides.
